Congrats Grant Recipients! June 2024

We’re excited to announce our most recent grant recipients! The Arrowhead Regional Arts Council awarded $125,560 in grants to fund various art projects and opportunities to uplift our vibrant arts community in the Arrowhead Region.

Individual Artist Equity Grant

Alexandra Blust, Grand Marais, Cook: 
funding will support the artist’s time, travel, and materials to take advantage of a unique shoemaking mentorship opportunity.

Amir Najam, Duluth, St. Louis: 
funding will provide supplies to build a boat and explore the artist’s feelings of displacement. 

BellSkimmer Studio, Duluth, St. Louis: 
funding will support the artist’s time to create and for printing costs to participate in the Duluth/Superior Pride Festival art exhibit at the Duluth Public Library.

Claire Bransky, Duluth, St. Louis: 
funding will support the artist’s time to write and edit a short story.

Clare Cooley, Duluth, St. Louis: 
funding will support the artist’s supplies and time to create and live-stream the process of a series of mixed-media paintings.

Gaelynn Lea Tressler, Duluth, St. Louis: 
funding will support the artist’s time to make their play accessible to a wider audience at the Zeitgeist Theater in Duluth.

Jacklyn Janeksela, Duluth, St. Louis: 
funding will support the artist in creating and printing a book.

Jordan Sundberg, Duluth, St. Louis: 
funding will support the artist’s opportunity to take part in an illustration mentorship.

Kat Niemi, Duluth, St. Louis: 
funding will support equipment, supplies, and time for the artist to create more elaborate costumes and outfits for future drag events.

Katie Sharar, Duluth, St. Louis: 
funding will support the artist’s time to write a series of essays about climate change and migration.

Leah Yellowbird, Grand Rapids, Itasca: 
funding will support the artist’s exploration of a new method of leather tooling.

Mitchell Bercier, Cloquet, Carlton: 
funding will support the artist’s time and supplies in the creation of a graphic opera libretto

Patrick Colvin, Duluth, St. Louis: 
funding will support a concert that celebrates women composers.

Serenity Kenan, Duluth, St. Louis: 
funding will support new wearable art inspired by mindfulness practices.

Shaunna Heckman, Duluth, St. Louis: 
funding will support the mixing and mastering of six instrumental tracks.

William Mix, Duluth, St. Louis: 
funding will support the production and mastering of a new song, construction of a lego ukulele, and a music video of the new song.

Kristine Piasecki, Duluth, St. Louis: 
funding will support the artist’s time to create a series of artworks reflecting their rediscovery of their creativity.

Arts Learning Grant

Avery Makes Room For Them, Duluth, St. Louis: 
funding will support a healing workshop where participants learn traditional beadwork and the history and traditions of beading.

Bryan Hansel, Grand Marais, Cook: 
funding will support equipment, supplies, and instructor time to conduct a hand-drawn map making class.

Crescendo Youth Orchestra, Hibbing, St. Louis: 
funding will support the training for trios and quartets to perform for regional events.

Elizabeth Chatelain, Hibbing, St. Louis: 
funding will support the creation of a mentorship program for individuals of the Iron Range interested in learning more about filmmaking.

Ely Folk School, Ely, St. Louis: 
funding will support hand sewing and machine sewing classes for youth.

Rita Fortunato Sterling, Aitkin, Aitkin: 
funding will support the art supplies for three fine arts classes. 

Shawna Weaver, Duluth, St. Louis:
funding will support student-instructor collaborative improvisation intensives and a performance.

Amy Lucas-Peroceski, Chisholm, St. Louis:
funding will support art activities and take-home kits for children with limited access to art classes.

Art Project Grant

Aitkin County Friends of the Arts, Aitkin, Aitkin: 
funding will support the RippleSippi Music Fest in Aitkin, MN.

Duluth All Souls Night, Duluth, St. Louis:
funding will support supplies and artist stipends for the Duluth All Souls Night Festival.

Duluth Art Institute, Duluth, St. Louis: 
funding will support the artist stipends for upcoming art exhibitions.

Duluth Chamber Music Festival, Duluth, St. Louis: 
funding will support artist stipends for the third annual Duluth Chamber Music Festival.

Duluth Children's Museum, Duluth, St. Louis: 
funding will support the creation of a multi-dimensional and immersive experience that engages children's senses, celebrates the beauty of nature, promotes creative expression and collaboration & inspires a lifelong love for the arts.

Sacred Heart Music Center, Duluth, St. Louis: 
funding will support artist stipends, marketing, and production of two concerts that will provide underrepresented artists with a safe, high-quality, professional venue to perform/work for a live audience

Take It With You, Duluth, St. Louis: 
funding will support the writing of an all original live radio theater production.

YWCA Duluth, Duluth, St. Louis: 
funding will support a salon style community art show focused on showcasing artists expressing their joy about their unique identity.
