Location: Duluth, MN - Hybrid

Arrowhead Regional Arts Council (ARAC) is seeking a full-time Grants Manager to join our team. The Grants Manager develops, administers, and evaluates ARAC’s grant programs by coordinating the development and initiating the administrative management of grants. They are also responsible for organizing data to evaluate and track progress towards ARAC’s mission. 

ARAC serves individual artists, nonprofit organizations, informal arts groups, community education organizations, and non-arts nonprofit organizations which reside in the seven county Arrowhead Region of Minnesota which includes: Aitkin, Carlton, Cook, Itasca, Koochiching, Lake, and St. Louis counties as well as Fond du Lac, Grand Portage, Bois Forte, and Leech Lake tribal communities.

Principle Responsibilities

Grant Program and Service Delivery:

  • Become acquainted with small arts organizations, community groups, and individual artists involved in, or interested in initiating arts programming throughout the seven-county area.

  • Maintain communication with constituents and potential applicants through a variety of means: in-person, email, Zoom (or other like video conference), and phone, etc.

  • Implement, maintain, and facilitate the on-line grant application process.

  • Plan, deliver, administer, and evaluate services to assigned areas based on identified needs.

  • Assist constituents and potential applicants in fully utilizing ARAC’s programs and services with specific emphasis on assigned program and accountability areas.

  • Maintain grants database and fulfill reporting requirements.

  • Be able to use grant data to create and tell a story of ARAC’s work and accomplishments to constituents and legislators to increase the visibility of the Legacy Amendment.

  • Oversee all aspects of assigned responsibilities for grant programs including, but not limited to:

  1. Ongoing review and publication of program guidelines.

  2. Review of applications for eligibility and completeness.

  3. Panel facilitation and support.

  4. Respond to applicant requests for feedback.

  5. Review and approval of final reports for completed ARAC funded projects.

  6. Prepare grant round activity reports for staff and board of directors.

  7. Enter and maintain accuracy of grant data.

  8. Provide technical assistance relative to the submission of grant applications and follow-up forms.

  9. Provide accurate and timely reporting to Minnesota State Arts Board and other funders.

  10. Other duties as assigned. 

Program Development and Administration:

The Grants Manager will work as part of a staff team to ensure that grant programs and services are planned and implemented to achieve ARAC’s mandate, mission, and organizational goals. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Supports leadership in the oversight of grant-making policies and procedures.

  • Understands the developmental, organizational and programmatic needs of constituents and assists in translating those needs into effective ARAC programs and services.

  • Conducts ongoing evaluation of programs through use of final reports and constituent/applicant feedback and brings results of evaluative work to the annual/biennial organization planning process.

Skills/Working Knowledge Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have professional experience working in the arts, the nonprofit sector, and grant making experience. A candidate will demonstrate superior interpersonal relationship skills. Other specific qualifications and skills include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work/professional experience required.

  • Nonprofit experience in the arts and/or grantmaking sector. Experience working in a grantmaking organization preferred.

  • Commitment to racial and social equity and willingness to be actively engaged in ongoing equity work.

  • Proficient with Google applications; proficiency in Foundant software preferred.

  • Proficient in data management and reporting.

  • Self-starter who is able to work independently and as a team.

  • Strong attention to detail; strong logic and analytical thinking; creative problem solving.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and to develop solutions to problems.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally and respectfully with other staff, Board of Directors, and individuals representing diverse applicant groups, as well as the general public.

  • Excellent project management skills.

Compensation and benefits:

  • Starting salary range: $48,000 - $60,000 based on experience with opportunity for compensation change based on performance, equity across the organization, strategy, and organizational budget.

  • Full-time staff (32-40 hours per week) receive 12 sick days per year, 12 vacation days (increases with each year of employment), 24 hours of personal time, 13 paid holidays, as well as 1 summer and 1 winter break.
