The Itasca Symphony Orchestra along with the Itasca Community Chorus and the Grand Rapids Male Chorus will perform Karl Jenkin's "The Armed Man" in a public concert in the Reif Performing Arts Center on May 18,2024.The concert will be conducted and planned by Pedro Oviedo (Itasca Orchestra) and Adam Giebner (Itasca Chorus).
The music selected is a powerful piece written to bring people of diverse beliefs and backgrounds together in a mutual desire for peace. Their vision is bring the community together in using the power of music. The piece is subtitled "A Mass for Peace" which has the connotation of a Christian traditional service. The composer uses a variety of forms including a Muslim call for prayer as well as a traditional folk tune to help us to feel our shared humanity.
