This event features an exhibition of finished works, as well as interactive demonstrations with a vintage hand-controlled chainstitch embroidery machine on-site and information about this craft. Once dominant in commercial embroidery, these machines and techniques were superseded by programmable embroidery machines in the 1960s-70s, dramatically cutting production costs but also stripping away a distinctly human element from the work.
