Wednesdays
May 15, 22 6-8pm

Fridays
May 17, 24 6-8pm.

This will be a lively, site-specific spectacle, featuring masks, large puppets, and a 10-piece brass band, the Brass Messengers.

Images will include:

  • a stilt-walking Royal Guard.

  • an energetic school of silver-smelt puppet and mask dancers.

  • a musical procession featuring a giant Smelt Queen and her underwater retinue.

  • hundreds of individuals and families joining the parade in homemade costumes and smelt regalia.

Maritime Visitor's Center (600 Canal Park Dr. Duluth, MN 55802), continuing on the Lakewalk, downtown Duluth

The parade will begin at 3:30 pm, at the Aerial Lift Bridge, on the lawn in front of the Maritime Museum, with a brief performance to introduce the puppets and the Brass Messengers. The parade will conclude with a smelt fry and party at Zeitgeist Cafe, 222 East Superior St.
